What is Craniosacral Therapy?
Craniosacral Therapy is a subtle, non-invasive form of bodywork that focuses on the craniosacral system—the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect your brain and spinal cord. Developed by osteopathic physician Dr. John Upledger, CST is based on the principle that this system has a subtle, rhythmic motion.
Stress, trauma, and fatigue can cause restrictions in the connective tissues (fascia) that surround your central nervous system, disrupting this natural rhythm. By using a very light, sensitive touch, a trained practitioner can feel these rhythms and gently help release these deep-seated tensions.
A Path to Deep Relaxation and Renewed Energy
During a session, you remain fully clothed while lying comfortably on a massage table. The touch is incredibly light—often no more than the weight of a nickel—on your head, neck, back, and other parts of your body. This gentle contact is designed to calm your nervous system and release the physical and emotional residue of stress and tension.
The goal of CST is to support your body’s innate ability to self-regulate and heal. By releasing these restrictions, we can help reduce the “fight or flight” response, allowing your body to shift into a state of deep rest and repair.
